Dwell in Prayer

“One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.” –Psalm 27:4

What a privilege it is that because we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus, we have the honor of dwelling in the presence of God. This does not mean that we simply get to visit on certain special occasions, or that we can only go to God for limited amounts of time… It means that we get to dwell, to stay.

The word “dwell” has a deeper meaning. Consider the following phrases when imagining what it means to dwell in the house of the Lord…

To reside
To settle in
To have your home

The most exciting thing about this sweet piece of Scripture is that it says we get to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of our lives. This means that we do not have to wait until we get to heaven to enjoy the presence of God, we can savor it now!

And what is one main way we get to do that? You guessed it- through prayer. The last part of this verse says to seek God. As a believer, challenge yourself to practice praying without ceasing. Make prayer a habit that you integrate into every moment of your day so you can experience the true gift of joy that comes from dwelling in God’s presence!
